VehiCLE

Guided Dilation Catheter

The Guided Dilation Catheter was brought to the vehiCLE team as an idea.  The goal of the device is to assist clinicians in the insertion of catheters by creating a smooth transition from the guidewire to the catheter to better navigate turns and internal geometries.

VehiCLE created two designs for the device.  The first is a custom folley tip with a more gradual slope so that turns within the urinary tract can be navigated more smoothly and easily.  VehiCLE was able to create this design with 3D printed materials as well as designing a full length catheter and finding outside companies that could produce the custom silicone parts.

The second design is an anatomically accurate male urinary tract model that allows clinicians and trainees to get a realistic feel for catheter insertion and to see the catheter as they advance it.  Often, urinary tract models are not anitomically accurate.  This model also allows the custom catheter to be tested against traditional catheters.

Both devices are being marketed to outside companies.

Next Steps:
The Guided Dilation Catheter will be tested in anatomical models and possibly in animal models to show viability.  It will then be marketed to relevant companies for licensing.
