Sears think[box]

Outside of Think boxThe Larry Sears and Sally Zlotnick Sears think[box], Case Western Reserve University’s invention center, provides a space to tinker and creatively invent. Housed in the newly renovated Richey Mixon Building, this $25M project is a 7-story, 50,000 square foot facility, making it one of the largest university invention centers in the world. The vision of think[box] is to change the economic and social culture of the University and region by emphasizing cross-discipline and cross-institution collaborative endeavors that push creativity and innovation to their limits. Think[box] is encouraging collaborative endeavors that push creativity and innovation to their limits, by providing a place where members of the engineering, design, arts, science, medical, and business communities can interact. To enable this innovation, it has a world-class, hands-on fabrication center with a range of 3D printers, such as Fortus 250mc, 400mc and MakerBot Replicator 2, software tools, CorelDraw, Epilog Legend 36 EXT laser cutter, and Makerbot Digitizer and Next Engine 3D Scanners. Machining capabilities in a host of mediums, such as wood, plastic, and metal include the LPKF S63 Printed circuit board router, ShopBot PRSalpha 36x48 computerized router and Lynx 3D Stereo Inspection Microscope. The sophisticated equipment includes wood and metal shop tools as well as electrical and electronics machinery: Jet Model J-2550 Drill Press, Kalamazoo Industries Model S612V Combination Sander, HP 33120A Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generation, and Tektronix MSO2014 Mixed Signal Oscilloscope. For the craft lover, Sears think[box] offers embroidery and sewing machines.

Located inside of the Sears think[box] is the APT Center Biodesign Suite, a 400 square feet of space for Center engineering staff, provided by Case School of Engineering. The space includes advanced 3D printing and other additive manufacturing capabilities acquired by and for the APT Center.
