Dr. Damaser has over 25 years experience investigating pelvic floor disorders, including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, and fecal incontinence, and is considered an internationally recognized expert in the field. In collaboration with colleagues at the APT Center, she has developed several systems for monitoring bladder and bowel function wirelessly and catheter-free, a true innovation for the field that enables monitoring of function during ambulation and daily activities. She has 6 patents with more pending, all of which have been optioned or licensed for commercialization. She recently published a first in human study with the wireless catheter-free bladder monitor. She also works with a large variety of animal models to test new device designs, model pathology to study disease mechanism, and develop regenerative therapies to treat pelvic floor disorders.
Dr. Margot Damaser is a Senior Research Career Scientist and serves as APT Center’s Deputy Director. She is also Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and she has a lab at the Cleveland Clinic as well as at the Cleveland VAMC. Dr. Damaser has won several awards for her outstanding mentoring of trainees and junior faculty, is a member of the prestigious College of Fellows of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), was recently inducted into the National Academy of Inventors, and was awarded a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers PECASE in 2000.
