VA APT Center Administrator Receives Prestigious Award from Federal Asian Pacific American Council

Vi Huynh, Director of Operations at the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center of Excellence at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (LSCVAMC) was recognized for Excellence in Individual Achievement from the Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC). The purpose of the award is to acknowledge individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the advancement of Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) and the promotion of Diversity/Equal Employment Opportunity in the Federal and District of Columbia government workforce and AAPI communities.

The Excellence in Individual Achievement award is given to the Individual who has shown the greatest contribution toward the AAPI representation at all levels as compared to the total AAPI population as a whole.

Mr. Huynh was selected, in part, due to the following achievements:

  • Mr. Huynh recently joined the Asian Pacific Islander Special Emphasis Program (SEP), EEO at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center. He is actively recruiting employees to join the group and is working on programming to keep them engaged and active in the organization.
  • He also currently serves on the Ohio Asian Pacific Islander Advisory Council, after he was appointed by Governor Kasich.
  • Mr. Huynh is a co-founder of the Cleveland Asian Festival, which supports AsiaTown’s economic growth, educates and promotes Asian culture and traditions, celebrates Asian Heritage Month, and unites Cleveland’s Asian Community. LSCVAMC participates at the Festival where it promotes the medical center and does outreach to veterans in the community.
  • He is also Chair of the organizing committee for the Ohio Asian Health Conference to be held in Cleveland, OH on June 20, 2015 that will raise awareness and understanding of the health concerns and needs that affect the Asian American community.

Vi Huynh received his Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has served as the Director of Operations since July 2014. Previously, he worked as an operations manager for Cleveland Clinic as well as a practice manager for University Hospitals Medical Group.

About the APT Center: The APT Center is one of 17 designated Centers of Excellence in the Rehabilitation Research and Development (RR&D) Service of the US Department of Veterans Affairs. Established in 2005 as a collaboration between the LSCDVAMC and CWRU, the APT Center focuses on applying the most recent advancements in microelectronics, material science, microfabrication, wireless communication and mechanical design to the pressing medical needs of disabled veterans, and translating them into viable clinical options. Investigators, project staff and support specialists associated with the Center concentrate their professional effort on translational research in the areas of: Prosthetics and Orthotics, Health Monitoring and Maintenance, Neural Interfacing, and Emerging Enabling Technologies. APT Center related activities have resulted in more than 60 invention disclosures and 15 patented or patent-pending concepts and prototypes that will serve the clinical needs of veterans with sensory, motor and cognitive deficits or limb loss.
