VehiCLE
Drop Ease
The Drop Ease was brought to VehiCLE as a well developed prototype. It is a device that assists people with limited dexterity or stability to align and deliver eyedrops. The large handle and trigger allow for easier application of the drops. We were tasked with refining several aspects of the design including the angle of the eye piece, adding grip to the handle, and making the dropease compatible with ear drops as well.We were able to implement these changes and have sent the latest prototype to an industry partner to review. The dropease now has the ability to accept an otoscope tip, which will help with easy application of eardrops.
Our design is made of 3D printed materials along with off the shelf hardware. We are currently in the process of fabricating 10 units to send back to the Cincinatti VA.
Next Steps
The Drop Ease is currently being reviewed by an industry partner. In the future, all of the plastic components could be molded, which would allow for tighter tolerances and higher levels of precision.U.S. Patent Application: 17/399,623 (VA ID: 2020-120)
