Hui Zhu, MD, ScD

Hui Zhu, MD, ScDDr. Zhu received a doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering from MIT with focus on tumor microcirculation and drug delivery. In addition, he received medical degree from Duke University Medical School and completed Urology residency at the Washington University Medical School/Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Fellowship training took place in Urological Oncology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York Center.

Dr. Zhu is currently the Section Chief of Urology Section at the Cleveland VAMC since 2008, and an attending staff at the Cleveland Clinic Glickman Urological Institute. His research focus is on biomedical engineering related translational research to improve urological care, which is funded by NIH to study OCT use in urological cancer.

Wireless Implantable Bladder Pressure Monitor for Continence and Urinary HealthDr. Zhu is a collaborator on a project developing a wireless implantable bladder pressure monitor for continence and urinary health. Investigators with the APT Center have designed a miniature, implantable, catheter-free, wireless, rechargeable pressure monitor to provide long-term information about the state of the bladder. This new tool will enable physicians and researchers to obtain data related to bladder pressures without the inconvenience and infection risk of chronically indwelling catheters, or need for repeated catheterizations.

Photo: The unpackaged wireless pressure monitor prototype is shown to demonstrate the size of the device and the on-board circuitry that was designed to reduce power consumption and increase efficiency. Dr. Zhu is an investigator on this project.
