Lisa Lombardo is a Research Physical Therapist at the VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System. She also holds an Investigator position with the Advanced Platform Technology (APT) Center at Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center (LSCVAMC). Her research efforts focus on the clinical application of neuroprostheses and restorative technologies for individuals with neuro-musculoskeletal disorders. This includes the use of electrical stimulation in individuals with paralysis to restore standing, stepping, and seated stability. Additionally, using intensive exercise programs with stimulation to strengthen muscle contractions and to improve fatigue resistance of the paralyzed muscles to allow improved function. She has continued to use this knowledge and expertise to involve individuals with paralysis the opportunity to exercise on a recumbent bike and/or an adapted rowing machine using both implanted and surface stimulation. Lisa is the senior physical therapist as well as clinical coordinator for the Motion Study Laboratory (MSL) at the LSCVAMC, which is a state-of-the-art facility for the biomechanical and physiological analysis of human motion and rehabilitation outcomes for gait, posture, balance and activities of daily living after neuromuscular dysfunction.
