Elvera Baron, PhD
Research interests
Elvera L. Baron, M.D., Ph.D. received her undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Mathematics at the University of Michigan, MI, and undergraduate medical and graduate degrees (MD and PhD in Molecular Biophysics) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY. During her residency training in Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai Hospital, she acquired expertise in simulation education through the clinical education residency track in Human Emulation, Education, and Evaluation Lab for Patient Safety and Professional Study (HELPS) Center. She went on to complete fellowship training in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. She is now a fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA) and American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), as well as Certified Health Simulation Educator (CHSE).Dr. Baron is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Department of Bioethics, and Center for Medical Education at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, OH. She is a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and serves as the Medical Director of the Cleveland VA Simulation Center. She is a faculty preceptor in pre-clinical courses at CWRU SOM, a site director for University Hospitals Anesthesiology residency elective at the Cleveland VA Medical Center, and is a member of CWRU SOM Faculty Council. Dr. Baron is recognized regionally and nationally for her work in perioperative echocardiography, ethical issues in anesthesiology, and simulation-based education.
