Sensorimotor Restoration Lab: Upper Extremity
Located in the basement of the LSCVAMC
The Sensorimotor Restoration Lab: Upper Extremity is a dedicated space of 350 square feet at the LSCVAMC, under the direction of Dr. Dustin Tyler, for conducting clinical research for restoring natural sensation and intuitive motor control to amputees. The research lab includes two sinks, a Skytron examination lighting, locked cabinets for lab stimulation equipment and data storage and two subject sensory testing areas. Nerve stimulation is conducted through various platforms including custom computer controlled software and hardware, such as the Grapevine and Nomad recording and stimulation systems (Grapevine, Ripple Neuro). Each piece of equipment is isolated on a medical grade power transformer and tested for electrical safety every six months. A variety of clinical and custom instruments are available to characterize psychometric responses. In addition, a variety of clinical Activities of Daily Living tasks are available. Laboratory personnel have access to a shared machine shop useful for prototyping prosthetic modifications of sensors.
