Sensorimotor Restoration Lab: Lower Extremity
Located in the basement of the LSCVAMCThe Sensorimotor Restoration Lab: Lower Extremity is a dedicated space of 350 square feet at LSCVAMC, under the direction of Dr. Ronald Triolo, for conducting clinical research to restore sensation to people with lower limb loss. The research lab includes a sink, locked cabinets for lab stimulation equipment and data storage, a wall-mounted display, three PC workstations, and a subject sensory testing area. Nerve stimulation is conducted through various platforms including custom computer-controlled software and hardware, including an external control box. We also have 8-channel recording device to capture, amplify, and digitize electromyography. Each piece of equipment is isolated on a medical grade power transformer and tested for electrical safety on regular basis. In addition, a variety of clinical and custom instruments are available to characterize psychometric response, to determine sensory thresholds, and to test electrical continuity of implanted components. Laboratory personnel also have access to other laboratory environments and equipment where they can perform functional tests such as sensory organization test, walking on treadmill, or obstacle crossing.
