Biocompatibility Testing Laboratory
Additional facilities at Case Western Reserve University, Biomedical Research Building, 3rd Floor, 10900 Euclid Ave. Cleveland, OH 44106 at the VA B E252.
The State of Ohio Third Frontier Program provided resources to support the creation of new technology-based products, companies, industries, and jobs. The Diagnostic Engineering Technologies for Evaluating Connective Tissues (DETECT) project is focuses on wound management. As a site director for DETECT, Dr Bogie established the Biocompatibility Lab as a core resource within LSCVAMC Research and has been Director since 2013. Facilities include lab space and equipment for pre-clinical testing and evaluation of biological materials. Major equipment available includes an ASP6025 Tissue Processor, an ABI ViiA7 quantitative real-time PCR system, a Sorvall Legend X1-R centrifuge, a NanoDrop 2000 UV-Vis microvolume spectrophotometer, high-performance and benchtop Leica microscopes, microtomes, tissue embedders, a CM4050 S cryostat, autoclave, 4o fridge, and -20o and -80o freezers. Additional facilities at CWRU include a EnvisionTEC 3D-Bioplotter that can fabricate biocompatible tissue scaffolds from a wide array of materials, from biological materials (cells) and soft hydrogels to polymer melts and ceramics in suspension. The 3D-Bioplotter can also produce bimaterial constructs with variable internal structures.
