DEB Gait Device
The DEB Gait Device project was brought in as a concept for assiting gait rehabilitation for individuals who cross over their feet during walking. The idea was to use magnets on the individuals shoes to help repel the feet during gait so that the feet would end in the correct position and help train the user to walk correctly.Our design utilizes a custom magnet interface that can strap on to most shoes. The magnets are spaced and angled so that there is a field of repulsion as the feet pass eachother. A key component to consider was the edge effect of the magnets, which would tend to attract. We were able to angle the magnets in such a way to overcome these edge effects.
This device has been tested in therapy settings, and is currently being reviewed by an industry partner.
Next Steps:
The DEB Gait Device will be reviewed by industry partners, and will hopefully be licensed in the near future.
